ABSTRACT From its historical origins as a resistant and violently repressed bundle of music, dance martial arts practices the African diaspora in Brazil, capoeira has travelled, becoming global phenomenon with groups networks diverse sites around world, including London, Cape Town Hong Kong indeed Leeds where this research was based. We focus on linguistic, cultural embodied ensemble capoeira, researching group participants led by Sandro, Brazilian contramestre, providing rich laboratory for what been called language learning “in wild”, specifically Afro-Brazilian linguistic (music, movement, lyric, voice) that are crucial element ensemble. These contingently bring together, rehearsal performance, characteristic dance/ movements, pervasive regulation rhythm apprenticeship body into movement.
